FilmColumbia 2021 Health Protocol
Because our community’s safety is our highest priority and in recognition of growing concerns about the spread of COVID variants and breakthrough infections, FilmColumbia 2021 will need to be different. To bring you this year’s festival, the Crandell Theatre board of directors has adopted the following health protocol for the duration of the festival, October 22 through 31, 2021: Seating capacity reduced by 50 percent to provide for buffered seating. Tickets for each film (including the Sneak Peek) sold online with seats selected at the time of purchase. Remaining tickets for individual films available at the box office 30 minutes prior to screening. All-Film Passes not available. The Crandell Theatre hosted a virtual community event, “Making History – Marking the 50th Anniversary of the 1971 May Day Protests as Recorded by Videofreex, ‘Mayday 1971 Raw’” on Saturday, May 1. Over 40 participants enjoyed the lively and engaging panel discussion via Zoom. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the 1971 May Day peace protests that made history, with record-setting civil disobedience arrests and leading to the end of the Vietnam War. The event featured access to a 66-minute, 21st century edit of the original video compilation by pioneering collective Videofreex, from the historic 1971 May Day protest. Participants were invited to watch in advance of the event, and then tune in to the fascinating panel discussion that followed. Farm Film Festival 13: March 15 – March 21, 2021
Crandell Theatre proudly presents the thirteenth annual Farm Film Festival. This year’s festival, presented in collaboration with the Chatham Agricultural Partnership and the Columbia Land Conservancy, will be held virtually via Zoom. Farm Film Festival XIII is presented with generous support from MetzWood Insurance and the Hudson River Bank & Trust Foundation. As in the past, the program is a mix of films made by professional and amateur filmmakers who respond to the call for entries; the films are selected by a panel representing the collaborating organizations. The festival showcases films that focus on farms, farming, and farming issues from local and national filmmakers. We aim to offer a variety of programs to attract both new and loyal Crandell audiences, and to spark discussion among members of our community on issues important to the Chatham area and our region. Our inaugural program on March 1, “Uprooting Addiction,” addressed the addiction crisis and featured the eponymous film. Twelfth Annual Farm Film Fest has been postponed
Date TBD Due to the expected large crowd and the Crandell’s commitment to safeguard people’s health, the Farm Film Festival, originally scheduled for this Sunday, March 15th at noon, has been postponed until later in the season. In the meantime, the Crandell Theatre’s normal screenings are still on the schedule. In place of the Farm Film Fest on Sunday, we have scheduled a second screening of Balloon.
