Yomeddine, which means “Judgement Day” in Arabic, is a tearjerking voyage across Egypt. A lifelong resident of a leper colony, Beshay, who is scarred but cured, leaves the community to look for the father who left him at the colony long ago. A young orphan, Obama, and an old donkey accompany him on his journey. Made by Anu Bakr Shawky, a young Egyptian filmmaker who studied at NYU, Yomeddine presents a vivid picture of rural Egypt as it unsentimentally tugs at the heart.
