A standout of this year’s festival circuit, Waves promises to be a prominent player in the awards season. It is a wrenching drama about a black family in South Florida that despite their wealth, nevertheless feels the sting of racism, adding to the angst of growing up experienced by a son and daughter. But this is not a one-dimensional movie about racism or another tedious coming-of-age story. The L.A. Times called Waves an “emotionally shattering and thrillingly unpredictable new movie.” Played the Telluride and Toronto Festivals.
