“Utama” means “our home” in Quechua, the language spoken by the indigenous people of the mountains outside La Paz. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for International Documentary at Sundance and this year’s Bolivian entry to the Oscars, Utama is a sublime and ravishing work about an elderly couple of llama herders suddenly faced with a lack of water for their animals. Their urban grandson urges them to move to the city but the couple resist leaving the Andes.
