Oscar-nominated actress June Squibb is Thelma Post, a sweet 93-year-old who gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson. Without a second thought, she sets out on an ill-conceived quest across the city to reclaim her money. In this refreshing twist on the action genre, Squibb’s nonagenarian leading lady gets to take on the thugs, and her family, in hilarious, age-appropriate ways. Inspired by a real-life experience of Director Josh Margolin’s own grandmother, this is the first leading role in Squibb’s 70-year career. Richard Roundtree (Shaft) co-stars in his final role before his death last fall.

Thelma has everything you want in an action movie: chases, gunplay, a scene where the heroes slowly walk away during an explosion, near-misses, and a crowd-pleasing climax that made my audience cheer.” — Odie Henderson, The Boston Globe
“Thelma’s adventures with her assisted-living chum (the late Richard Roundtree) generated some of the best laughs from any film in the fest, and those scenes between grandma and grandson touched my soul.” — Randy Myers, The San Jose Mercury News
