The Five Demands

Made by Austerlitz, NY’s fiercely independent Jezebel Productions (Greta Schiller and Andrea Weiss), The Five Demands fills a gap of American social history that’s particularly meaningful now the Supreme Court has annihilated affirmative action. In April 1969 a small group of Black and Puerto Rican students shut down the Harlem campus of New York’s City College challenging institutional racism in higher education. Using both archival footage and contemporary interviews with the students who led the strike this riveting history, according to The New York Times, “serves to highlight a less-remembered aspect of the countercultural student movement.”
