The Boy and the Heron

The latest creation of Academy Award-winner Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is setting international box office records for its visually lush, innovative work. This animated film is about a boy who, during the war, loses his mother in a fire. When he moves with his father to the countryside, he befriends a pesky heron who claims his mother is alive and leads him to an abandoned tower in the woods. There they discover an alternate, magical world that reveals his mother’s secret. Played the New York and Toronto festivals.
