Scotty Bowers, a handsome young World War II veteran, was “discovered” on Hollywood Boulevard by Walter Pidgeon when Bowers pumped Pidgeon’s gas. The actor introduced him to Hollywood’s gay elite and Scotty turned that providential encounter into a career—as Tinseltown’s procurer to the stars. In 2012, at the ripe old age of 89 he published a memoir, Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars, in which he cheerfully named names of the rich and famous who, given the homophobic nature of the industry, were incognito. Matt Tyrnauer’s sunny portrait is as surprising as the ex-marine himself. The film’s editor, Bob Eisenhardt, will attend.
