Saint Omer

Winner of two major awards at the Venice Film Festival, and featured in both Toronto and New York, Saint Omer is a stunning debut film from the noted French filmmaker Alice Diop. Based on the trial of a Senegalese mother who abandoned her infant daughter during a high tide on a beach in Northern France, the film imagines a writer attending the trial trying to understand how the mother could plead not guilty yet still admit she did it. France’s film entry to the Oscars.
