It’s unprecedented that Japan is submitting a film by a non-Japanese filmmaker, Wim Wenders, as its candidate for Best International Film at the Oscars. Perfect Days already won Koji Yakusho the Best Actor Award at Cannes as a contented cleaner for the Tokyo Toilet Project who loves books, taking photographs, and, as the title suggests, the music of Lou Reed. Sublime. Played the Telluride, Toronto, and New York festivals.
