Play Mary Poppins Returns movie still

What better holiday gift than everyone’s favorite nanny, Mary Poppins, returned from the archives more livelier than ever. Played by Emily Blunt, and surrounded with an all-star cast that includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth with Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury thrown in for good measures, the film is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is fleshed out with a wealth of material drawn from PL Travers’ additional seven books. Ms. Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family and uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

“Emily Blunt is practically perfect in every way in a Mary Poppins sequel that uncannily recreates the original’s wholesome studio-system vibe.” — Owen Gleiberman, Variety
“Emily Blunt proves herself a sparkling successor to Julie Andrews -with a lovely singing voice to match.” — Mara Reinstein, Us Weekly
“Its old-fashioned, honest sentimentality plasters a smile across your face and plants a tear in your eye, often simultaneously.” — David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter
