Veteran film critic Todd McCarthy refers to this film as “the kind of story Sam Peckinpah might have been partial to in his quieter mode. Jockey is a little gem about an aging rider whose days on the circuit are nearing an end, just as a youngster shows up who claims to be his son.” At Sundance where the film premiered, Clifton Collins Jr. won the Best Actor Award in American film.
