An astonishing film, Flee is frighteningly timely. It’s the story of Amin, a refugee, who fled Afghanistan as a young man during the first Taliban era, and as an adult he is now about to marry his boyfriend. Amin, however, still harbors a secret that forces him to remain anonymous. Therefore, while keeping Amin’s own voice, filmmaker Jonas Poher Rasmussen, uses animation — fluid and expressive drawings — to illustrate Amin’s dramatic journey. Flee was the Sundance Grand Prize Winner for Documentary.
