Helping his mother clean out the junk (including a dead cat) in the house of her recently deceased packrat sister, a lonely young boy bonds with a neighboring 80-something Korean War vet. There isn’t much in the way of plot here, but the nuanced characterizations are extraordinary and the film does that rare thing: it warms the heart without insulting our intelligence. Produced by James Schamus, it was shot in Poughkeepsie, where the writers met at Vassar. Played the Berlin Film Festival.
