After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River, Connecticut. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life takes a turn for the dark side when her teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife. Director Tim Burton brought his long-awaited sequel to the Halloween classic to Venice, where it opened the 81st Annual Venice Film Festival. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara reprise their roles and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream), Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) and Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive, White House Plumbers) and Will Arnett (Blades of Glory, The LEGO Movie) complete the perfect casting.
“Fortunately, there isn’t a whiff of cynicism to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Burton shows real affection for the first film’s characters and genuine curiosity about how they’re doing three decades or so later.” — Justin Chang, NPR
“Michael Keaton returns in peak form to the funniest role of his career as the trickster demon who’s determined to let his freak flag fly. The Juice is loose, babe. Act accordingly.” — Peter Travers, ABC News
