Golden Globe Award Nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy (Amanda Seyfried)
Shaker Museum and Crandell Theatre present an advanced screening of director Mona Fastvold’s ferocious new musical film starring Amanda Seyfried as Mother Ann Lee, the founding leader of the Shaker Movement. Mother Ann, who was proclaimed the female Christ by her followers, suffered the loss of all four of her children. The film follows her grief and spiritual evolution as she establishes a utopian society and the Shakers’ unique style of worship through song and dance.

Amanda Seyfried first captured the attention of audiences and critics alike in her breakthrough performance as Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia! The 2008 film, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, earned a Golden Globe nomination and grossed more than $600 million. Ten years later Seyfried reprised her role in Ol Parker’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which grossed over $400 million. Seyfried received both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal of Marion Davies in David Fincher’s critically acclaimed film, MANK (2020), about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his development of the screenplay for Citizen Kane. She won an Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Critics Choice Award for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s limited 2022 series The Dropout and was selected as one of Time magazine’s TIME100 for 2022. Seyfried was also a producer on the series and received a 2023 PGA Award nomination alongside Elizabeth Meriwether, Michael Showalter, Rebecca Jarvis, and Victoria Thompson. She is currently starring in The Housemaid, a psychological thriller based on Freida McFadden’s New York Times bestselling novel. The Testament of Ann Lee will premiere in theaters on December 25, 2025.

“The Testament of Ann Lee is a wild, wonderful tribute to one hell of a woman and Seyfried is the glowing flame at its heart.” — Nick Howells, The London Evening Standard
“Ultimately, the director leaves us with more questions than answers. Which is probably what art should always strive to do.” — Bilge Ebiri, New York Magazine/Vulture
