For almost three years in the late 1970s, New York’s Studio 54 became the epicenter of the celebrity universe. The club founders, Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, wanted to make it big in Manhattan and did so beyond their wildest dreams, with a little help from their friend, a fixer by the name of Roy Cohn. Director Matt Tyrnauer intercuts contemporary footage of interviews with a talkative Schrager and a host of other key figures in this shady tale that Variety called a “thrilling and definitive documentary.” Introduced by FilmColumbia’s own Managing Director Calliope Nicholas, who worked at Studio 54 during its heyday.
