In 1974 when the young photographer Peter Hujar was barely making a living as an artist, his friend Linda Rosencrantz invited him over to discuss how he spent his day. The transcript of that conversation, intended for a book but long lost, was finally published in 2021. New York’s fearless indie filmmaker Ira Sachs decided to film it word-for-word to achieve what he calls “the texture of intimacy.” Sachs succeeds in conjuring a lost world with the help of nuanced performances from Ben Whishaw as Hujar and Rebecca Hall as Rosencrantz.
