Joshua Jelly-Schapiro is a geographer and writer whose other books include Names of New York and Nonstop Metropolis: A New York City Atlas (with Rebecca Solnit). His work appears regularly in The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, and The New York Times, among many other publications. He is the Director of Publishing at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, and teaches at NYU.
