Too early one morning a man (another winning performance from John Magaro, here at his most intense) wakes his young children for an unannounced road trip. Kids, their dog and an anxious Dad pile into his ramshackle car; he never says where they’re headed. As the jalopy lumbers across Utah’s sublime landscape, a picture of underclass roadside America emerges, as does the devastating story of this small family. Cole Webley’s first feature builds to an emotional knockout.
