Richard Linklater, America’s most protean filmmaker, pays tribute to Jean-Luc Godard’s groundbreaking feature, Breathless, the film that launched the French New Wave. Shot in Paris in 1959, the original was a tribute to low-budget American B movies. Linklater breezily recreates the making of the film in crisp black-and-white with an exceptional team of actors who play Godard, his two stars Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg, and his filmmaking colleagues Francois Truffaut, Claude Chabrol, Eric Rohmer, and Agnes Varda. Linklater’s homage is a cinephile’s delight.
