M3GAN

Model 3 Generative Android, M3GAN for short, is a life-like robotic doll and marvel of artificial intelligence. Designed by toy-company scientist Gemma (Get Out‘s Allison Williams, who also produces), she has the dead-eye stare of the undead yet is programmed to listen, watch, learn and, above all, protect the human child she bonds with. You can see where this horror-comedy is headed, though how it gets there is half the fun. More than just a cautionary tale about our dangerous reliance on devices, the film, with its creepy Mod Squad-like doll doubling down on her role as a primary caregiver, raises potent feminist and gender issues as it unsettles and entertains. Masters of the genre James Wan, the filmmaker behind the Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring franchises, and Blumhouse Productions, the producer of the Halloween films and The Invisible Man, bring this disarming protagonist to life.
