In reviewing this second feature by Moscow-born filmmaker Kirill Mikhanovsky (now based in Milwaukee), Manhola Dargis of The New York Times choose Give Me Liberty as a Critic’s Pick, calling it “a jolt of a movie . . . an anarchic deadpan comedy.” Speed demon Vic, a Russian immigrant, drives a van for the disabled and on one wintry day gets more passengers than he or the van can handle. As it hurtles through Milwaukee, Give Me Liberty reveals itself as artless and artful, violent and tender, and above all, very funny.
