Perhaps the most timely and urgent film in this year’s festival, Call Jane is the fictionalized story of how one suburban housewife in the 60s became, out of necessity, an abortionist. Starring Elizabeth Banks, as Joy, a woman whose pregnancy becomes life threatening, and Sigourney Weaver, as Virginia, a founder of a group of clandestine abortion providers. Premiered at Sundance to universal acclaim in January.
