Naturally, Disney’s whole new world of remakes includes an adaptation of its early 1990’s gem, Aladdin. This time, Will Smith takes on the part of the unbottled genie (a role that won the late Robin Williams a Golden Globe). Mena Massoud from Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan stars as the titular unlikely hero who is smitten with the princess Jasmine (Power Rangers’ Naomi Scott). Many of the musical elements from the first film are said to remain.

“That the movie itself is a treat, beyond its good intentions, is icing on the cake.” — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
“Despite a couple of large, genie-blue stumbles along the way, Guy Ritchie’s live-action version of Disney’s Aladdin is on balance a colorful and lively adventure suitable for all ages and a touching romance featuring two attractive leads–and has enough creative musical energy to introduce this story to A. Whole. New. World.” — Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times
“The movie is colorful and pretty, and Smith brings a fresh, more street-wise approach to his character, while still honoring the motor-mouthed spirit of [Robin] Williams’s scene-stealing performance.” — Michael O’Sullivan, The Washington Post
