Along with Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, Audrey Flack was an Abstract Expressionist in the ‘50’s, then studied with Joseph Albers, becoming the sole recognized female photorealist in the ‘70’s, and later turned to monumental public sculptures—all while struggling to raise two daughters, one of whom had autism. Now, at 88, she has returned to her canvas for the first time in decades. Oscar-winner Deborah Shaffer tells her story.
