Dìdi, known as Wang Wang to his friends, is an impressionable 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy living with his family in Fremont, California in 2008. It is the last month of summer before high school begins, that energizing, confusing, terrifying and pivotal time in the life of every young teen. As he runs head-long toward the next phase in his life, he learns what his family can’t teach him: how to skate, how to flirt, and how to love his mother. Oscar-nominated writer and director Sean Wang (Nai Nai and Wài Pó) delivers an unsentimental coming-of-age dramedy when MySpace and flip phones reigned supreme.

Dìdi understands, to an astonishing degree, what it’s like to be an awkward teenage boy.” — Odie Henderson, The Boston Globe
Dìdi sets itself apart by examining more than just the turbulence of growing pains; it’s also a period piece that understands the flattening effect the internet has on teenagers in particular.” — Shirley Li, The Atlantic
